On the desks there is a red bell that is labeled 'Don't Press'. Once you press this button, enemies will begin coming to life in one room area at a time. About thirty people (all characters from the game) will try to kill you. You will hear a sound once that wave is completed. There are two waves of kills needed to complete it. Note: There are three rooms, one of which nothing happens in. Do not bother shooting anyone prior to using the bell, as it will not count.

6. During the snowmobile sequence, when you are approximately 1850m from the finish, stop. Look for a small wooden fence surrounding some trees in the middle of the path in front of you, and a small wooden building up a hill to the right. The Intel is on the ground inside the fenced area with trees. Just run over the Intel to pick it up.

Create a class with the Scavenger perk and claymores. Setup a claymore, and once it kills someone, you can scavenge his body for another. You can also scavenge when you already have one setup, then get another, and place it somewhere else. You can only carry one at a time, but you can put down as many as desired. It works best to stay in a room. Every time someone comes through it and gets killed, scavenge, set, and repeat.
Infinite grenades
While using the One Man Army perk, equip a grenade launcher to one of your guns. After you run out of grenade, use One Man Army, select the class you were just using, and you will have two more grenades for the tube. Also, everything else will refill. Repeat this as many times as desired.
Easy Cold-Blooded Pro perk
Create the following class:
After creating this class, host a private match or a split-screen match with a friend. Make sure your friend has a class with Hardline, and the Pavelow as one of their Killstreak rewards. Have your friend kill you enough times until they get their Pavelow. When their Pavelow is out, use your rocket launcher to hit it. If it is not destroyed the first time, use your Scavenger perk to get more rockets. Immediately after the Pavelow starts to spin out of control, use your light machine gun to rapidly shoot at it. Each bullet that hits the spinning Pavelow will count towards the Cold-Blooded Pro perk. By doing this method, you can easily get the Cold-Blooded Pro perk within a five minute match.
Easy Last Stand Pro perk
Create the following classes:
Class 1
Class 2
After creating these classes, host a private match or a split-screen match with a friend that is willing to be killed multiple times. If you cannot find someone willing to do this, then use an empty player (a controlled player with no one actually controlling it). Start with Class 1. Have your friend shoot you until you are in Final Stand mode, then activate One Man Army, and switch to Class 2. After you get up, start shooting your friend. Every kill you get will count as a Last Stand kill. Every kill will also count towards One Man Army.
Easy Juggernauts kills
Shoot a Juggernaut in the face with the Thumper to instantly kill it.
Easy 'Armor Piercing' mission in Special Ops mode
When the mission begins, grab the Barrett .50 Cal and/or Intervention. Then, keep running up the stairs until you reach the scaffolding (there is an ammo crate below the scaffolding). You may encounter a Juggernaut near the scaffolding. If so, kill it, and then climb up the scaffolding. Go prone, and just try to keep sniping the Juggernauts straight ahead with the Barrett .50 Cal or Intervention. You can also have one player hide behind the ammo crate below the scaffolding and try to lure them towards you. Alternately, have one player die on a staircase to block the path of the Juggernauts, while the other player kills them from behind it.
Easy 'High Explosive' mission in Special Ops mode
Note: This trick requires two players. When the mission begins, run to the left, and look down the alley. If there is a Juggernaut standing there, either try to kill him or stun him so you can both enter the building on the far left through the large window. Have one player stand in front of the doorway, and die while trying to shoot at the Juggernauts. Have the other player crouch behind the table next to the large window you entered through, and simply shoot the Juggernauts as they stand near the door. They will not be able to get past the player downed in the doorway. Make sure to revive the player after killing the Juggernauts standing near the doorway so they do not bleed out. The Juggernauts usually come in waves of 1-1-2-3-3. If you get a chance, you can refill your ammo near the area you started the mission.
Easy 'No Russian' mission on Veteran mode
Successfully complete the 'No Russian' mission on any difficulty. Select it again from the mission menu, and choose the Veteran difficulty. After the mission begins, pause the game, select the option to skip the mission due to its content, and you will be given credit for completing it on the Veteran difficulty.
Easy level boosting with riot shield
Get twelve people in a lobby, and explain how the level boosting is going to work. Next, kick six people out so there are only six in your party. Then, find a Search And Destroy game. Note: While trying to find the game, make sure the host (the person trying to find the game) temporarily has a bad connection so it will make you host the lobby and not pair you with someone else. Once you are in the lobby, you can invite the other six people to join. When all the spots are filled, you can make your connection good again and begin the match. Choose a class with the riot shield. It is recommended both players use the One Man Army perk if you have unlocked it. Once the match begins, find another player, and have them keep shooting you while you hold the riot shield to block the bullets. You will get +500 experience points every few seconds five times. Once you start only getting +100 experience points, switch classes and have the other player switch to a riot shield class. Do the same things to them until they only get +100 experience points, and then switch back. Repeat this as many times as desired. It is possible to get over 50,000 experience points per match if done correctly. Note: To keep the game going as long as possible, make sure one team plants the bomb and then the other team defuses it.
Riot shield defense
While the riot shield is equipped to one of your classes, you can have defense from the back when you are holding your secondary weapon; thus, being able to switch the direction of defense with your riot shield. This is useful in narrow corridors and stairwells. -From: Destructor58
Hidden sniper positions in 'High Rise' map
Look from the center of the map at the cranes, then to the left side of the map. Go that side's back left corner. Find the broken scaffolding. Sprint from before the ledge, and jump to the left outside yellow vertical railing of the scaffolding. This is a hidden ladder. Climb up this railing/ladder to the top of the scaffolding. Walk to the right of the scaffolding along the ledge of the building. You will eventually reach another scaffolding. Climb onto this scaffolding. Walk to the top. Look towards the building, and climb onto the higher ledge. Follow that ledge going left. Keep moving forward to reach the roof. This is a very good sniper spot. It is recommended you use a Tactical Insertion because other players may discover you on your way to the top, or while you are up there, and try to kill you. There are also a lot of teddy bears on the roof.
Invincible pipe in 'Rust' map
At one end of the map is a short length pipe sticking out. If you climb in it, you cannot be killed by kill streak explosions (for example, air strikes, Predator missiles, AC-130, etc.) unless it goes directly into the pipe.
Shepherd comments in 'Endgame' mission
At the end of the final mission when you are supposed to kill Shepherd with the knife, after the helicopter crashes, stand next to him, but do not kill him. After some time, he will begin to say things such as 'You know killing me won't change anything' or 'You're a good warrior', trying to persuade you not to kill him. When you must follow Shepherd and attempt to stab him while dazed, do not go near him while he lays against the car. He will say one sentence at a time, slowly, and his final sentence will be 'But you were never willing to do what must be done' or something similar. Note: If you get too close to Shepherd, he will knock you against the car. If you are too far away, he will cut the speech short.
Hidden Juggernaut message
Play a level where a Juggernaut can be found in Spec Ops mode. After killing a Juggernaut, look at his crotch area to see the message 'Get sum!'. Alternately, have yourself or a partner walk up to him, and enter last stand mode (bleed out). Then, look at his crotch area.
Hidden face on sniper lens cover
In Multiplayer mode, hold any sniper rifle with its primary scope. Start running in any direction, as long as the sunlight shines on the back of it, to see a green frowning face with its tongue sticking out, like the one you can receive in your accolades.
Various game references
On the Estate map, go inside the estate (the largest house in the center of the area). Use a sniper rifle, and look on the rack under the LCD television in the main hall. There is a Gamestation 5 console (reference to the PlayStation) with games named 'Italian Plumber Princess Rescue' (a reference to the Mario games) and 'Deer Hunter 17' (a reference to the large quantity of Deer Hunter games). Go to the basement using the stairs in the kitchen. Look at the posters on the wall around the pool table. There is one with the name 'Massey Effect' (a reference to Mass Effect), and in the same poster, there is a description 'Chaos Theory was just the beginning' (a reference to Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, which is the story considered to be the beginning of the subsequent Splinter Cell games' stories).

Tips and TricksThereâs a lot going on for this one. We need to punch through the Russian defense, clear their crowâs nest, use that crowâs nest against them, and then join the fight in a helicopter. Letâs keep a few things in mind.
Finding the Crowâs NestWalk through the evac site until you get to the exit. Follow Foley outside for one heck of a charge. You can also take a look at the wreckage of D.C. If you want. Follow Foley forward along the trenches. Once you get close enough, youâll be ready to engage the enemies in what is apparently the Department of Commerce. Wait for the signal and then break to the left. Follow Foley up through the door on the left. Rush forward and take cover behind the big desk or the ammo crates. Use your M4A1 to clear out the balcony. Just keep up the fire. Foley and his men should be able to clear the floor. Advance a bit more and curve on over to the left. Advance into the courtyard and fire through the windows on the Russians inside. Take cover and then advance inside to the ammo crates. Donât rush in just yet. Move along the windows and fire through the windows at the Russians in the hallway. You might as well take care of them now. Also, you should probably trade out the pistol for a shotgun. It might come in handy for the close quarters up ahead. Move down the hallway and take cover by the big desk on the left. There should be one more guy waiting in ambush down the hallway to the right. The door in front of you should also have one guy behind it doing blindfire. Send a few rounds through the door to take him out. Then quickly spin right and kill the Russian watching the stairs. Head on up another level. Weâre on the balcony to the entrance area, which should still be fairly clear. Watch the right side for any Russians you might have missed the first time. Then follow Foley down the balcony and up another level. We have to do some more room clearing. Be very wary of Russians hiding in the corners as you clear the little offices. We need to cut out a little path to the enemy crowâs nest. Just follow Foley or one of the rangers forward until you get to it. Get a full clip and look inside. Gun down the first 2 soldiers on the right, then curve to the left and see if you can hit a few more. Fall back to reload and then swing back in to take out any of the survivors. Holding the Crowâs NestThe first evac helicopters should fly out, but weâre not ready to leave just yet. Jump onto the sniper rifle and scan the horizon. Use âW' to zoom it out. You need to nail all the soldiers with javelin missiles. Focus on the stationary soldiers first, then take out the rest moving around. Remember to lead them by a little bit, since your bullet has a little way to travel. Once the last one goes down, you need to jump off and go to the sand bags behind you. Fire on the soldiers rushing in to flank you. Just keep taking them out as they jump over the sandbags. The only danger is that the men in the room on the left can get into a good firing position. Donât forget about them. Once youâve stemmed the first wave, you need to grab a javelin and get ready to blow some stuff up. The green arrows point at all possible targets, so just line it up and wait for the lock. You should get some attention from an enemy helicopter after you take out the first few. Just hit the ground behind the sandbags and wait for it to pass. Once youâve taken out about 4 vehicles, you should be ready to go. A Fighting RetreatWe need to run up to the rooftop. Go up to the doors, but watch the right hallway as they breach them. About 3 Russians should charge in, so ambush them. Then start moving up the steps. When you make it to the top, a Russian should pop out from behind the door to ambush you. Just blast him. Make it to the rooftop and follow the waypoints to the helicopter. Jump in and get on the minigun. Weâve got a little more fighting to do. Go ahead and fire on some stuff with the minigun while you move. The big fight is at the WW2 memorial. Fire on the 2 towers with the soldiers on top. Just nail the area and bring the whole thing down around them. Then try to take out the vehicles and the helicopter in the center. The helicopter should give you a nice pass of the men outside. Just keep firing and focus on the center line. You should rip it to shreds. Hang on after the first hit. If you want, fire on the windows in the Department of Justice to knock out the RPG soldiers. Fire on the rooftops to hit some of the SAM sites before you get shot down. When you regain consciousness, use the rifle in short bursts to take out Russians on the right. Youâll only get one more magazine, so conserve your fire. You should be able to score a few kills before things fade to white. This post is part of the series: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Walkthrough â Missions 6-10
Things are heating up a lot on the international scene. Thereâs a full invasion to deal with in America and a lot of wet work for the special ops team. Thereâs a daring escape, a ranger charge, 2 raids, and 1 big defense. If you need any help at all with these challenges, then look here.
(Redirected from Call of Duty Six)
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (often referred to simply as Modern Warfare 2) is a first-person shooter video game developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision. It was released worldwide on November 10, 2009 for Microsoft Windows, the PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.[2] A version for OS X was developed by Aspyr and released on May 20, 2014. The Xbox 360 version was made backward compatible for the Xbox One in 2018. It is the sixth installment of the Call of Duty series[3] and the direct sequel to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, continuing the same storyline.[4][5] It was released in conjunction with two other Call of Duty games: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Mobilized for the Nintendo DS,[6] and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Reflex, a port of Call of Duty 4 adapted by Treyarch for the Wii console.[7]
The game's campaign follows the Task Force 141, a special forces unit fronted by Captain Soap MacTavish, as they hunt Vladimir Makarov, leader of the Russian Ultranationalist party, and the United States Army Rangers, who are defending the country from a Russian invasion. The game's main playable characters are Sergeant Gary 'Roach' Sanderson, of the 141, and Private James Ramirez, of the Army Rangers, with Captain MacTavish becoming playable later in the campaign. An expansive multiplayer mode is featured in the game, with several new features and modes that were not seen in its predecessor.
Development for the game began in 2008, when it was still known as Call of Duty 6. It uses the IW 4.0 engine, an improved version of Call of Duty 4's IW 3.0. Infinity Ward was inspired by real-life conflicts when developing the campaign mode. They initially tested the multiplayer mode by playing an in-house beta version of the game. Modern Warfare 2 was officially announced on February 11, 2009.[4] Teasing of the game began in March, with short trailers being released for the game and, eventually, a full reveal trailer. The multiplayer mode was revealed shortly after. Two downloadable content packs were released for it post-release, each containing four new multiplayer maps.
Modern Warfare 2 received universal acclaim. Within 24 hours of release, the game sold approximately 4.7 million copies in North America and the United Kingdom. As of 2013, the game has sold 22.7 million copies. In addition to its release, a comic book series based on one of the game's characters was also produced, entitled Modern Warfare 2: Ghost.[8] Despite the game's success, it was subject to some controversies, with one surrounding a playable level that had the player carry out a terror attack on an airport. A sequel, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, was released in 2011 and finishes the original Modern Warfare storyline.
Gameplay[edit]
The gameplay of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 revolves around fast-paced gunfights against enemy combatants.[9] The player controls a soldier who can perform several actions, including jump, sprint, crouch, lay prone, and aim down their gun's iron sights.[10] When the player is shot by an enemy, blood will splatter their heads-up display (HUD), denoting that they have taken damage; if the player avoids gunfire by taking cover, their health will recover.[11] The HUD also displays other information, such as a compass, a mini-map, and the player's current ammunition count.[12] The game features traditional guns, including assault rifles, shotguns, handguns, and sniper rifles. The player will be given specific guns at the beginning of each level, but may switch them out with another gun they find.[13] Some guns have attachments, such as suppressors, and heartbeat sensors.[14] The player can use grenades and flashbangs when faced with a large group of enemies, as well as a knife for close quarters combat.[15] In some levels, the player will be given special equipment, such as night vision goggles, or a laser designator.[16]
Players can compete against each other in Multiplayer mode
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has three different game modes: Campaign, Spec Ops, and Multiplayer.[17] Campaign is a single-player mode where the player completes eighteen levels connected by an overarching plot.[18] Each level features a series of objectives to fulfill, and the player will often switch characters between levels.[17][19] If the player dies during a level, they will respawn at the most recent checkpoint.[20] Levels can be played on one of four difficulties, and each level can be replayed after it has been completed.[20][21] Spec Ops mode features twenty-three additional levels that can be played individually or cooperatively with a partner. These levels provide specific challenges, such as defusing three bombs within a short period of time.[22] If one player is shot down while playing cooperatively, they will begin crawling, and can shoot enemies with a handgun. If they are not revived by the other player, then they will die and fail the level.[22] There are five tiers of Spec Ops levels, with each tier harder than the previous. Only the first tier is available from the beginning, as later tiers can be unlocked with enough stars. The player earns stars by completing the levels on one of three difficulties, with the number of stars earned corresponding to the difficulty chosen.[22]
Multiplayer mode allows players to compete against each other in team-based and deathmatch-based game types on various maps. Each game type has an objective that requires unique strategies to complete.[23] If the player kills three or more players in a row without dying, they achieve a 'killstreak', which gives the player a tactical advantage during a match. These include a Predator missile,[24] a sentry gun,[25] and a 'tactical nuke'.[26] Alternatively, if the player dies several times without a kill, they will be rewarded with a 'deathstreak' bonus, which evens the match for the player.[26] A match ends when either a team or player has reached a predefined number of points, or the allotted time expires in which case the team or player with the most points wins.[27] The player's performance in the Multiplayer is tracked with experience points, which can be earned by killing opposing players, completing objectives, or by completing a match.[28] As the player gains experience, they advance in level, unlocking new weapons. The player will also unlock perks, which modify gameplay elements such as unlimited sprint and increased bullet damage.[29]
Plot[edit]Characters and setting[edit]
During the single-player campaign, the player controls five different characters from a first-person perspective. The player primarily controls Sergeant Gary 'Roach' Sanderson, a British member of an international Special Forces unit named Task Force 141. In addition to Roach, the player will also assume control of Private First Class Joseph Allen (Troy Baker) and Private James Ramirez of the United States Army Rangers.[30] The now Captain John 'Soap' MacTavish (Kevin McKidd) serves as a senior member of Task Force 141, acting as Roach's superior officer and becomes the playable character in the final three missions of the game.[5] Lastly, the player briefly assumes the role of an astronaut stationed on the International Space Station during the height of the war between the United States and Russia.
The game's non-playable characters (NPCs) feature prominently in the story: For Task Force 141, Lieutenant Simon 'Ghost' Riley (Craig Fairbrass), who conceals his face with a skull print balaclava serves as Soap's second in command.[31] For the United States Army Rangers, Sergeant Foley (Keith David), along with his subordinate, Corporal Dunn (Barry Pepper), is initially Joseph Allen's squad leader, and becomes James Ramirez's squad leader later in the story. Lieutenant General Shepherd (Lance Henriksen) is the commander of the United States Army Rangers and Task Force 141. Other supporting characters returning from Call of Duty 4 include Captain John Price (Billy Murray), MacTavish's former commanding officer in the BritishSpecial Air Service who was imprisoned in Russia, and Russian informant 'Nikolai' (Sven Holmberg).
Story[edit]
Despite the efforts of the U.S. Marine Corps and British Special Air Service in the previous game, the ultranationalists seize control of the Russian Federation, making Imran Zakhaev a martyr and straining diplomatic relations with the United States. Shortly after this, an ultranationalist named Vladimir Makarov, Zakhaev's right-hand man, begins a campaign of revenge against the West, by committing acts of terrorism on European and International soil over the course of five years.
In 2016, Private First Class Joseph Allen participates in a military operation alongside United States Army Rangers stationed in Afghanistan, by assisting them in taking back a city from insurgents. Impressed by Allen's capabilities, General Shepherd recruits him into Task Force 141. While Allen prepares for an upcoming assignment, Captain John 'Soap' MacTavish and Sergeant Gary 'Roach' Sanderson infiltrate a Russian airbase in the Tian Shan mountains to retrieve an Attack Characterization System (ACS) module from a downed American satellite.
Allen is soon sent on an undercover mission for the CIA, joining Vladimir Makarov in a mass shooting at an airport in Moscow, Russia. Afterwards, Makarov kills Allen, aware of his true identity, and leaves his body behind to spark a war between Russia and the United States. Outraged by an apparent American-sponsored terrorist attack, Russia retaliates by launching a surprise invasion on the East Coast of the United States.[a][32] With no evidence of Makarov's involvement in the airport massacre, Task Force 141 is sent to Rio de Janeiro to capture his arms dealer, Alejandro Rojas. They succeed and learn that Makarov's nemesis is being held in a Russian gulag. They assault the gulag and rescue the prisoner: Captain Price, Soap's previous commanding officer in the SAS.[b]
Price agrees to help Task Force 141 but insists on ending the United States' war with Russia. After raiding a Russian port, Price launches a ballistic missile towards Washington, D.C. and detonates it in the upper atmosphere. The resulting EMP blast disables all electronic devices across the Eastern Seaboard, giving the Americans a much-needed advantage.[33] Soldiers fighting in D.C. narrowly avoid a bombing run of Russian-occupied strategic structures by the United States Air Force, lighting green flares atop the White House to show that the city remains in American hands.
Meanwhile, Task Force 141 narrows Makarov's hiding place to two locations; an aircraft boneyard in Afghanistan, and Makarov's safehouse on the Georgian-Russian border. Roach and Simon 'Ghost' Riley successfully raid the safehouse, but are then betrayed and murdered by Shepherd. It soon becomes evident that Shepherd is the catalyst of the Russian-U.S. war, intent on cementing his status as a national hero and prolonging military action as revenge for the men he lost to the nuclear device five years earlier, during the campaign against Khaled Al-Asad.
Price and Soap learn of Shepherd's betrayal and escape a battle between his and Makarov's forces at the boneyard. After learning of Shepherd's mountain base in Afghanistan from Makarov, Price and Soap raid the base to take revenge on Shepherd in a suicide mission. The duo pursue Shepherd's boat, and Price manages to shoot down his helicopter extraction as he and Soap tumble over a waterfall.[32] A dazed Soap stumbles towards the crash site and attempts to kill Shepherd, but is stabbed in the chest. While Price arrives and engages Shepherd in a fist fight, Soap pulls the knife out of his chest and throws it at Shepherd, killing him. Nikolai arrives and helps Price evacuate Soap for medical attention.
Development[edit]
Modern Warfare 2 was originally announced as Call of Duty 6.[3] The game was first announced under the title Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 by Activision on December 3, 2008.[34] Activision subsequently retracted its announcement, stating that any information about an upcoming Call of Duty game was 'speculative.'[35] Infinity Ward then asserted that it had not officially confirmed its latest project at that time.[36] On February 11, 2009, Activision officially announced Modern Warfare 2 and set a tentative release date for 'Holiday 2009.'[4] The game was tested in an internal beta by the development team. While both Call of Duty 4 and Call of Duty: World at War had been preceded by public multiplayer betas, no such beta was released for Modern Warfare 2 because it was determined that, according to Community Manager Robert Bowling, no public beta was needed unless the internal beta did not provide adequate feedback.[37]
Infinity Ward announced on October 2009 that the PC version of Modern Warfare 2 would not support the use of user-run dedicated servers or in-game console commands. This announcement was received poorly by some members of the PC community,[38] eventually instigating a response from Infinity Ward in an attempt to put the community at ease.[39][40] During brainstorming sessions, an idea came forth on what if the ending of Modern Warfare was a loss, leading to the sequel.[41] In an interview with Jesse Stern, he talked to producers of Infinity Ward with ideas such as 'outbreaks, viruses, chemical warfare, and even outlandish things such as aliens and the living dead.'[42] Stern mentioned having the game based on real-life conflicts before they halted further planning at first due to events in the 2008 South Ossetia war and in the Mumbai terrorist attacks.[42]
Game engine[edit]
The game utilizes the in-house IW 4.0 game engine, which is claimed to be a generation beyond the capabilities of the engine used in Call of Duty 4.[43] Although proprietary, the game is based on an unspecified id Tech engine, and can accommodate larger worlds, enhanced graphic detail, and more efficient rendering.[44]Infinity Ward has addressed the issue of enemies that continually respawn at different points of a level.[45] The developer demonstrated that the game engine uses a 'dynamic AI', which has replaced the infinite respawn system and allows enemies to act more independently. These 'smarter' enemies are designed to actively seek out and drive the player forward through a level, and can break away from set behaviors such as following a designated route in order to attack. The player cannot depend on enemies to be found in the same locations as a previous play-through because enemies will behave differently each time a level is played.[46]
Audio[edit]
On August 20, 2009, Robert Bowling revealed through Twitter that Kevin McKidd, Craig Fairbrass, Barry Pepper, Keith David, and Glenn Morshower were confirmed voice actors for the game.[47] It was later confirmed that McKidd would voice the protagonist, 'Soap' MacTavish.[48] Fairbrass, who voiced Gaz in Call of Duty 4, provided voice work for 'Ghost'. Billy Murray reprised his role as Captain Price from Call of Duty 4.[49] Rapper 50 Cent provided voice work for the Special Ops and multiplayer modes, portraying 'one of the squad [member] voices.'[50][51] The main theme of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was provided by Hollywood composer Hans Zimmer,[52] while the rest of the score was composed by Lorne Balfe.[53] The soundtrack was released on June 1, 2010.[54] The iTunes page for the soundtrack incorrectly lists Zimmer as the soundtrack's only composer.[54]
Marketing and release[edit]
On March 25, 2009, a teaser trailer for the game was revealed at the Game Developer Choice Awards ceremony in San Francisco. The teaser was posted on Infinity Ward's website,[55] and released on the Xbox Live Marketplace and the PlayStation Network a short time later.[56] A second teaser was released on May 10, 2009 and showed gameplay features such as snowmobile driving and underwater actions. The teaser announced that the game would be 'revealed' on TNT during the NBAEastern Conference Finals on May 24, 2009.[57] The 'reveal' was the first full-length trailer, which debuted extended sequences of actual in-game scenes and combat; the trailer was subsequently made available on the Modern Warfare 2 official website, which was kept updated for the occasion.[58] A fourth trailer was released on July 27, 2009, and showed the first footage of the game's multiplayer mode.[59] On October 4, 2009, a second full-length cinematic trailer was released and revealed that part of the game would take place in a war-torn Washington, D.C.[60]
On July 21, 2009, Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling revealed through Twitter that a Modern Warfare 2controller was in the works.[61] Peripherals manufacturer Mad Catz was contracted by Activision to create a line of Modern Warfare 2 controllers and accessories for all platforms that the game would be available on.[62] Activision stated, in its quarterly earnings report, that pre-orders for the game had broken a company record; more copies of Modern Warfare 2 had been pre-ordered than any other game that the company had published before.[63] In September 2009, Monster Energy teamed up with Activision to bring special redeemable codes on the Monster Energy website,[64] where people may submit codes included in Monster Energy packs to redeem items such as Xbox 360 Premium Themes and a Modern Warfare 2 Map Pack code.[65]
Title[edit]
The original teaser trailer confirmed that the game's title of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was officially shortened to just Modern Warfare 2.[2] After photographs of the official retail boxes were posted by Robert Bowling,[66] Activision confirmed that the standard-edition Modern Warfare 2 packaging would feature the Call of Duty brand logo in order to reflect the game's association with the Call of Duty franchise.[46] It is speculated that the decision was influenced by findings that brand awareness for the game was significantly lower without the Call of Duty logo.[67] However, the developers still prefer to simply call the game Modern Warfare 2 as they consider it a new IP.[68] The menus in the game also refer to the title as simply Modern Warfare 2.
Retail versions[edit]
Modern Warfare 2 was released in four different retail versions across the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms: Standard, Hardened, Veteran, and Prestige. The standard version consists of the game and an instructional manual, and is the only version available for the Microsoft Windows platform.[69] The Hardened Edition consists of the game and manual (which are packaged in a steel book case), an art book, and a token that allows one to download Call of Duty Classic, a hi-definition version of the original Call of Duty game, from Xbox Live Arcade or the PlayStation Store (Classic was released individually on December 2, 2009). The Prestige Edition contains all of the elements of the Hardened Edition, but also includes a set of fully functioning night vision goggles, imprinted with the Modern Warfare 2 logo, and a stand modeled after the head of the character 'Soap' MacTavish.[70] The goggles are powered by five AA batteries[71] and can see up to 50 feet in absolute darkness.[72]
On September 15, 2009, Activision and Microsoft jointly announced a special, limited Modern Warfare 2 version of the Xbox 360 with a 250GB hard disk. The unit is highlighted by special game product branding and includes two wireless controllers and a headset. This is the first Xbox 360 to come with a 250GB hard drive.[73] On September 18, UK and rep of Ireland retailer GAME announced a Veteran Edition of Modern Warfare 2 would be exclusive to rep of Ireland and UK. It will come with a 12' (30.5 cm) tall statue of 'Soap' MacTavish with interchangeable arms and weapons; has the same contents as the Hardened Edition.[74] In September 2009, a Veteran Statue Bundle of Modern Warfare 2 was posted on the EB Games website and is available for all platforms.[75]
Modern Warfare 2 was ported to OS X by Aspyr years after the game's original release. This version was released on May 20, 2014, alongside the OS X port for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.[76] The Xbox 360 version of Modern Warfare 2 was made backward compatible with the Xbox One on August 28, 2018.[77]
Downloadable content[edit]
Activision announced that two downloadable map packs would be released for Modern Warfare 2.[78] At E3 2009, Microsoft stated that these map packs would first be made available for the Xbox 360 via Xbox Live before they would be released for other platforms.[79] Robert Bowling stated that the community response to the game and the first ten downloadable map packs would be used in designing other potential map packs.[80]
The first map pack, titled the 'Stimulus Package,' was released first for Xbox Live on March 30, 2010[81] and for PlayStation Network and PC on May 4, 2010 in North America.[82][83] The pack contains five maps: reincarnations of the Crash and Overgrown maps from Call of Duty 4, and three new maps: Bailout, a multi-level apartment complex; Storm, an industrial park littered with heavy machinery; and Salvage, an abandoned car junkyard in the middle of the snow.[84] Within 24 hours of its release, it was downloaded over one million times. Within the first week it had been downloaded 2.5 million times, breaking Xbox Live DLC records.[85] In addition to integrating the maps into all existing game types, the Stimulus Package adds two new game modes, randomizing the built-in game types in either normal or hardcore mode.
Activision released the second downloadable map pack, titled the 'Resurgence Package', exclusively for Xbox Live on June 3, 2010 in North America. This release was followed by the PlayStation Network and PC versions on July 6 in North America and on July 7 worldwide.[86] The package includes five new multiplayer maps: reincarnations of the Strike and Vacant maps from Call of Duty 4, and three new maps: Carnival, a desolated amusement park; Trailer Park, a mobile home park; and Fuel, an oil refinery.[87] Both of the map packs were made available for purchase on OS X on May 20, 2014, when the OS X port of the game was released.[76]
Comic[edit]
A six-part comic book mini-series related to the game has also been produced. Announced by Robert Bowling on August 17, 2009, Modern Warfare 2: Ghost is focused on the backstory of the character Ghost, who appears in the video game as a member of Task Force 141. The series is published by WildStorm. The first issue of the series debuted on November 11, 2009.[8][88]
Short film[edit]
A fan-made prequel to Modern Warfare 2, entitled Find Makarov: Operation Kingfish, premiered at Call of Duty: XP 2011. The video was produced by We Can Pretend, visual effects by The Junction, and was endorsed by Activision. The first film, Find Makarov, was a non-canon fan made film. Activision contacted We Can Pretend about the video and helped produce a second canon short film, Find Makarov: Operation Kingfish.[89] The prequel tells the story of how Task Force 141 first tried to capture Vladimir Makarov, who was known then as Kingfish. It also tells how Soap got his facial scars, and how Price was captured and incarcerated in a gulag.
Reception[edit]
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 received 'universal acclaim' for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions, and 'generally positive' reviews for the PC version, according to review aggregatorMetacritic.[90][91][92] Reviewers praised the in-depth story mode, mini missions, and multiplayer.[123]
1UP.com stated 'Mixing real-world locations with bombastic set-pieces MW2 continues the guided, thrill-ride experiences of its predecessor, and adds even more depth to its multiplayer offerings. It might not have fixed all the problems from the first game, but there's just so much quality content packed into this game that it will almost certainly be one of the most-played games in your library for a long time to come'.[93]Game Informer noted 'Modern Warfare 2 is a masterpiece of careful iteration, with an unmatched presentation and a well of content that will take months to run dry'.[124]IGN commented 'For those planning to check out everything Modern Warfare 2 has to offer â online competition, full co-op Spec Ops mode, as well as the campaignâ you're looking at a no-brainer purchase'.[105]GameTrailers stated 'The air of unpredictability and the care that was paid to each separate element puts it in lofty company. The multiplayer hasn't received an overhaul, but considering most shooters are still playing catch-up with Call of Duty 4, the tweaks and twists make it the best multiplayer shooting experience in the industry. Few games manage to meet such high expectations'.[104]Computer and Video Games called the game 'Loud, epic and incredibly polished, [and] this year's biggest must-have shooter'.[95]
Criticisms of the game are directed towards a variety of aspects, but focus on the short length of the single player campaign. IGN's Mark Bozon remarks that the single-player of 'Modern Warfare 2 is surprisingly short, and doesn't live up to the standard set by previous Call of Duty games.'[105] In addition, many reviewers have complained about the lack of innovation to the formula of the series.[125][126][127]
Famitsu named Modern Warfare 2 as the number one game on the top 10 video games sold in 2009, beating games such as Metal Gear Solid 4, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Halo 3 and Grand Theft Auto IV.[128] It also gave the game a score of 39/40, being one of the few Western games released in Japan to have the same score as Grand Theft Auto IV.[129]
Sales and revenue[edit]
According to preliminary sales figures from Activision, Modern Warfare 2 sold approximately 4.7 million units in the United States and the UK combined in the first 24 hours of its release.[130] The total revenue from first day sales in the U.S. and the UK was $310 million, making Modern Warfare 2 the biggest entertainment launch in history at the time, surpassing in revenue its predecessor, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare,[131][132] as well as items from other media types.[133][134] After five days of sales, the game had earned revenue figures of $550 million worldwide.[135] As of January 18, 2010, it has taken over $1 billion in sales.[136] Activision also claims that Modern Warfare 2 had 8 million players online within the first five days, constituting the largest 'army' of players in the world.[137] On March 8, 2010, Robert Bowling announced that the game had amassed 25 million unique players.[138] In June 2010, Activision's CFO Thomas Tippl revealed that the game had sold 20 million copies.[139] In August 2011, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg revealed that the game had sold 22 million copies.[140] A month later in September 2011, Modern Warfare 3 producer Mark Rubin, said that the game's number (not confirmed as players or sales) was between 28 and 29 million.[141] In November 2013, IGN put the game's sales at 22.7 million.[142]
According to the NPD Group, Modern Warfare 2 sold approximately 4.2 million units for the Xbox 360 and 1.87 million units for the PlayStation 3 in the U.S. during the month of November 2009.[143] In Japan, Modern Warfare 2 sold 64,000 copies for the PlayStation 3 and 42,000 copies for the Xbox 360 in its first week of sales.[144] The game later sold 117,000 copies on the PlayStation 3 and 61,000 on the Xbox 360.[145] Anita Frazier of the NPD Group reported in March 2010 that the game had sold slightly under 10 million copies in the U.S. alone.[146][147] The game is no longer the second best-selling game of all time in both the UK and the U.S.[146][148][149]
After it became backward compatible with the Xbox One, the NPD Group reported that Modern Warfare 2 was the eighth-best selling video game in the United States during August 2018. It had sold more copies in that month than the then-most recent entry in the series, Call of Duty: WWII, which came out in November 2017. During the previous month, before becoming backward compatible, Modern Warfare 2 was at only number 321 on the best sellers list.[150]
Awards[edit]
Modern Warfare 2 received awards from various gaming sites and publications, it gained high praise from some video game magazines. At the 2009 Spike Video Game Awards, Modern Warfare 2 received the Best Shooter and Best Multiplayer awards. Both GameSpy and GameTrailers gave the game the Best Overall Game of 2009 award[151] and received from GameTrailers overall six awards.[152]GameSpot and Metacritic, both gave it the Best Xbox 360 Game award,[153][154] the Pakistani game reviewing site, PakGamers, has awarded Modern Warfare 2 with 'Best Xbox 360 Game of 2009'.[155] and from GameTrailers received the game the Best Multiplayer award[156] including the Best First-Person Shooter award.[157]
Controversy[edit]
Various portions of the campaign have caused some controversy, including the depiction of a massacre carried out in a Russian airport, on the mission 'No Russian', the fourth mission in the game.
Anders Behring Breivik claimed in his manifesto that he used the game to perpetrate the 2011 Norway attacks. Coop Norway, a chain of retail stores in Norway, removed the game from its shelves as a result of this attack.[158]
A YouTube user claimed that two paintings in the multiplayer map Favela offended Muslims. Activision removed the controversial paintings and apologized for its offense to Muslims.[159] The amended Favela map was added back into the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game, however was permanently taken out of the PC version.
Technical problems[edit]
After the successful hack on the PlayStation 3 in January 2011, some Modern Warfare 2 players on the PlayStation 3 have had their stats hacked or completely deleted. Infinity Ward replied that their advice was to play in private games, waiting for Sony to fix the problems on the platform side, saying that they could not patch the security problem themselves.[160]

Get Tooled UpCall Of Duty Mw2 PcYou are going to have to kill a lot of people in order to successfully complete Modern Warfare 2 and there are lots of ways to do it. The single player campaign stretches across various countries and environments, so you can change weapons quite frequently as you adapt to each new situation. For more on the game check out the Modern Warfare 2 review or if youâre struggling with the campaign try the walkthrough. In this article weâll examine the guns, explosives and special items at your fingertips. Call Of Duty Mw2 MapsThe basic weapon set is mostly standard first-person shooter equipment with typical categories like sniper rifles, shotguns, assault rifles, pistols and RPGs but there are some important distinctions and a few surprise extras. You can carry two guns plus explosives and in the single player there are special options like painting targets for the Stryker armoured combat vehicle. MeleeYou are rarely without a gun in Modern Warfare 2 but sometimes you will want to kill quietly or will be so close to the enemy that it is easier to do a melee attack. You can always hit E to strike with the butt of your gun.
Hand GunsAll of the hand guns are semi-automatic. The ammunition count is listed for each one. Youâll have a hand gun as your secondary weapon by default but Iâd recommend switching it out for something else as soon as you get the option. The M9 is my pick.
Machine PistolsThese arenât massively accurate but for close quarters combat when you want to spray a room they do the trick nicely and theyâre fun to use. The ammunition counts are listed again but remember you can get extended magazines. I like the Glock best.
Assault RiflesThese are great general purpose weapons and with various attachments they can be adapted to fit almost any situation. The ammunition counts are listed again but remember you can get extended magazines. I have affection for the AK-47 but it probably isnât your best option to be honest.
Sniper RiflesSome folk just love to snipe, everyone else hates them. If you like to find a nest and settle down to pick off enemies from a distance then youâll want one of these. Just make sure you have a good back up weapon because the clips are small and the reload times are long. The Dragunov is my pick but you wonât find it in the multiplayer.
Sub-Machine GunsNeed lots of bullets and a high rate of fire? These are for you. The ammunition counts are listed but remember you can get extended magazines. The P90 is the best option here.
ShotgunsStopping power and close range spray, the shotgun is best for tight areas. If you need to clear out a building, go for a shotgun but remember it is useless even at mid range. Reload times are long so take cover before reloading and remember you can increase these ammo counts with extended magazines. My pick is the AA-12.
Light Machine GunsThese are described as light machine guns in comparison to fixed heavy guns. They are in fact the biggest guns on the list apart from the rocket launchers. They have huge ammunition counts but need to be handled with care to be effective. I like the RPD. Call Of Duty Mw2 Remastered
Rocket and Grenade LaunchersGreat for taking out vehicles or overkill on guys. Rocket Launchers have low ammunition counts and slow reload rates, but for taking out some vehicles they are your only option. I like the RPG-7 because you just point and shoot. Thereâs no targeting hassles or lock on required.
ExplosivesAll sorts of explosive devices can be used to your advantage in Modern Warfare 2. Grenades are always useful and claymores are awesome for setting up a defensive perimeter.
Gun AttachmentsThe attachments offer all kinds of useful extras and can make a difference to your basic weapons.
Choose your WeaponsThere may one or two omissions from the list so if youâve used something else in game post a comment and Iâll update the article. There are also a few guns that only appear in the single player Campaign or the Special Ops missions. For multiplayer youâll need to work to earn your upgrades and unlock weapons. Let us know what your favourites are. ReferencesAll references and screenshots from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. This post is part of the series: Modern Warfare 2 Weapons
